Craobh Haven - 56° 12' 39" N 05° 33' 29" W
After popping out of the Crinan sea lock, we headed into Jura Sound ... smack into 5kn of current bang on the nose. Sometime, we don't get things 100% right. The Sound of Jura experiences strong tidal streams, particularly as you move north towards Corryvreckan, and guess where we were heading?

Our route is in blue - now just imagine those think, black lines going against us. The twirly shapes indicate disturbed water - Corryvreckan is home to the world's third largest whirlpool. Yikes! |
We were an hour off the turn of tide so persevered through the swirly water until then. Fortunately, it was very calm. Once the current died down, the wind picked increased so up went the sails and we zipped along merrily into Craobh (pronounced Crove) Haven.
We had a great reason for coming into Croabh Haven - there was a party on!! It was the Ocean Cruising Club's (OCC) Scottish gathering. We knew a few of the people going but met lots of cruisers with great stories to tell of their amazing and interesting adventure sailing the globe.
Stunning view south across to the marina and the Sound of Jura. |
After the party, we continued north with an easy motor-sail to Puillador for an overnight anchor in a busy but quiet spot and onto Oban. Last year, we spent a week in Oban aboard Away and were looking forward to revisiting the town.
McCraig's Tower was built as a lasting memorial to the McCraig family and, philanthropically, to provide work to stonemasons through the winter months. |

The weather continued to be sunny and we spent a delightful couple of days wandering around the town, reprovisioning and checking out the local pubs! Sean continues to crutch around but is getting less sore and more mobile every day.
