In very light conditions, we motored to the Isle of Mull and anchored under Duart Castle.

Now, THAT'S a proper Scottish castle! |
Timing the tides (and this time, we did get them right) next morning, we motored through the Sound of Mull to the quaint little town of Tobermory.

Singing and dancing - reminiscent of the Fastnet Race |
Tobermory Bay is very deep and there are limited anchorage locations. We were excited to see there was space in the wee, little anchorage but it did mean we were anchored a mere two boat lengths off the rocks! We were very brave but it was not without some nervousness that we watched the boat swing towards the rocks - even so close to the rocks, we were still in 10m of water!

Our anchorage in Tobermory. Glad the conditions were calm! |

Taking the dinghy ashore across the glassy water |
We went ashore and explored the many quaint shops. There really are only so many Scottish Expressions tea towels and puffin/highland coo (not a typo, they are coos here, not cows!) fridge magnets one can buy so our purchases consisted only of yummy pastries from the bakery! We did find a store that sold the cutest Highland Coo mounts made from tartans and Harris Tweeds. We could fit one of them on the boat, couldn't we??
 |
Oh so tempted! |
Of course, Tobermory has a distillery and we spent a lovely few hours sampling the local tipples while lapping up the sunshine. (Sadly, neither of us drink Scotch so we were tasting the local beers!)

One in every town.... |
With Sean rather nimble on his crutches these days, we hiked out to the Tobermory Lighthouse along the coastal trail. The trail was beautifully maintained and quite suited to those of limited ambulatory function! The bluebells and wild garlic were in full bloom and with the air full of birdsong, we believe spring has well and truly sprung!

Wild garlic and bluebells lined the trails |

Getting closer! Let's see this from the land side first. |

A lovely walk |
